Position Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a critical leadership role in MCA Fresno, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensuring the successful delivery of key program targets. The COO will act as a case manager for community members in need (zakat recipients, refugees, etc.), managing support services, supervising volunteers and employees, and driving the implementation of strategic goals set by the leadership and by grant administrators. This role requires a results-driven leader who can balance operational excellence with program development and expansion.
The COO will report directly to the MCA Fresno President and work closely with the Strategy Board and leadership team to expand and improve services, establish new initiatives, and strengthen community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Program Management:
Oversee and enhance MCA Fresno’s community programs, including Wasila Social Services, Anti-Islamophobia Campaign, Ihsan Health Initiative, and Manara Mentoring Club.
Oversee implementation of grant-related projects such as partnering with CAIR/UCSD to assist Afghan refugees, or with Islamic Relief to provide food boxes to those in need.
Providing effective case management and support for community members.
Develop and implement operational policies to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with regulations and ethical standards.
Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure program impact and identify areas for improvement.
Lead efforts to scale existing programs and develop new community initiatives aligned with MCA Fresno’s mission.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership:
Manage and supervise volunteers and employees, ensuring clarity in roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
Provide training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers.
Foster a collaborative and mission-driven work culture that aligns with Islamic values and the organization’s objectives.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement:
Strengthen relationships with local organizations, government agencies, donors, and faith-based institutions to enhance MCA Fresno’s reach and impact.
Represent MCA Fresno at public events, inter-organization discussions, and external engagements, advocating for community needs and support.
Coordinate efforts to increase funding, partnerships, and grant opportunities to sustain and grow the organization’s programs.
Strategic Planning & Growth:
Work closely with the President and leadership team to set strategic targets and deliver measurable outcomes on an annual basis
Assist in the development and launch of new initiatives, such as the Muslim Chamber of Commerce, or new grant-associated partnerships
Oversee financial and operational planning, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and utilized.
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
Physical and Legal capacity to accomplish all job responsibilities listed above
Ability to improvise and think innovatively and spontaneously in order to meet targets as challenges arise or situations change.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an English-instruction university
Capacity to provide excellent case management, in the American context.
Experience in leadership and team management roles
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, from community members to policymakers.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure while maintaining a mission-driven and compassionate approach.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
Commitment to MCA Fresno’s mission and values, with a strong desire to serve and uplift the community.
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies:
Experience preferred in nonprofit management, operations, or a leadership role within a social services organization.
Proven ability to manage volunteers and employees, with experience in leadership, training, and team development.
Demonstrated success in program execution, strategic planning, and performance management.
Familiarity with faith-based nonprofit operations and an understanding of Islamic values and community needs.
